Memorial services for Christopher Lawrence, 63, of Jefferson were held August 28 at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jefferson.
Words of comfort were offered by the Rev J. Alexander of Central Christian Church in Jefferson.
Christopher Robin Lawrence was born October 29, 1960, in Jefferson. He is the son of LaNetta and Darrell Sloan. Chris graduated high school from Jefferson in 1980.
Chris met the love of his life while still in high school and married Lorrie on November 4, 1978. After high school Chris went to work for Morton Buildings, following in his grandfather’s footsteps. While working for Morton Buildings, Chris and Lorrie started their own family with three children: Christopher (Herbie), Dawn, and Lyndon. Chris’s job allowed him to move his family around from Iowa to Oklahoma, Nebraska and Colorado, all while providing for his family. He finally moved back home to Iowa in 2002.
Chris loved all his family and friends, and was always the “go-to” person when anything needed to be done. No matter what the job was, Chris would always find a way to get it done. In his spare time you could always find Chris fishing at the river or creek. He also had a love for deer hunting.
Chris sadly passed away on August 23, 2024, in Des Moines, surrounded by many of his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Lorrie Lawrence; son Christopher (Herbie) Lawrence of Jefferson; daughter Dawn (Chad) Richter of Jefferson; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters Beverly (Kenny) Rosenow, Sheri “Pebs” Lawrence, Ruth (Darrell) Hose, Cheri Sloan, Wendy (Alan) Smits, and Gina Sloan; brother Chad (Dennis) Peterson-Sloan; sisters-in-law Johnna Gustoff and Betty (Kevin) Ridout; numerous nieces and nephews; and children he called his own.
Chis is proceeded in death by his son Lyndon Lawrence, parents LaNetta and Darrell Sloan; brothers Michael Lawrence and Earl Sloan; grandparents Herb and Myrtle Kendall; father-in-law, Larry Gustoff, Sr.; and sister-in-law Tamie McDowell.
